Despite a resilience and optimism in the market, there is not presently a great deal of new, fresh appointments into the market - the majority of the movement is accounted for by natural progression as recent graduates are becoming chartered and thus filling the gaps left by those who have either left or been promoted. That said candidates with great networks and a strong client following are, as ever, in high demand and remain sought after as the industry’s consultancies seek to bolster their departments with experienced hires.
There has been a great deal of M&A activity in the market over recent weeks, with Jones Lang LaSalle acquiring King Sturge and a BNP Paribas/DTZ merger looking increasingly likely. The effect of these changes remains to be seen, both in terms of the effect on senior-level movement as well as the effect on the creation of new job opportunities - it is certainly something that we will be watching with great interest.
