With offices in London’s West End, this young, entrepreneurial Private Developer seeks a Development Project Manager with expertise spanning the entirety of the development life-cycle, post-acquisition. With sites throughout the UK, they currently have around 150 units live on site across 7 developments, with a further 50 with planning secured, and over 1,000 units at application stage.
Raising the capital themselves, they have recently secured significant investment and are committed to using it, regardless of market conditions. They have a wealth of expertise in-house already but finding a delivery specialist is a key hire for them and the final piece in the puzzle as far as they’re concerned.
The successful applicant will have accountability across the entire development life-cycle, plugging-in at the development appraisal stage, getting proposed schemes through planning and onto site, formulating and executing the project programme, all the way through to completion and occupancy. An ‘end-to-end’ role, project delivery is still very much at its heart; as such the appointee is likely to come from a Project Management background, rather than Land or Planning.
Given the geographical scope of their operations, the appointee could be based in either London/Manchester, but either way will be spending a lot of time on the road, as they’ll be involved in developments from the South Coast to the North West (Liverpool, Leeds & Manchester). The travel aspect is non-negotiable. The schemes are mixed-use schemes – largely market sale, but some BTR resi – incorporating commercial/retail/hotels.
Their biggest single scheme in planning at present is 450 units, but they’ve articulated that they’re more interested in people who can demonstrate an ability to oversee multiple projects simultaneously, rather than necessarily with prior high-volume experience.
The ideal candidate will be someone currently working in a client-side setting and a background in EITHER a consultancy/contracting setting, preferably with lots of project/fund monitoring experience. If they hail from a consultancy background, this would need to be in a client-led capacity (e.g. Employers Agent/Clients Representative).
They’d like someone with a broad exposure to a variety of asset use classes (ideally multi-tenure residential, commercial, retail and hotels). In an ideal world – from a liability perspective – they’d be chartered (MRICS), but again, this isn’t a deal-breaker. Most important is that they are sparky, hungry and autonomous enough to lead on projects, without too much hand-holding. In addition to a highly competitive base salary, the successful applicant will also be eligible for bonuses (based on both company and personal performance). Moreover, anyone who manages to broker a deal will be rewarded for their efforts.
Salary: £60,000 – £75,000, plus bonuses and benefits.
