Are you a construction Buyer looking to move to a tight-knit and successful development company?

deverellsmith have partnered with a forward thinking, progressive company with over 40 years of running successful property portfolio with conversions into luxury residential and commercial spaces. Though they continue to expand in size, they retain their family feel with a great culture and office

Their projects consist mostly of residential refurbishments and new builds of luxury apartments, or high-end conversions of office to residential. Typical contract values range from c. £3m to £40m, and include basement digs, refurbishments, and full fit outs.

As a Buyer ensure that construction projects remain profitable for the developer by purchasing cost-effective materials.

Role:

  • Providing prices for all materials included in project plans and drawings

  • Identifying potential suppliers and new products

  • Contacting a range of suppliers and sub‐contractors to obtain quotations

  • Agreeing delivery times

  • Keeping detailed records and maintaining well‐organised work schedules

  • Assessing the reliability of sub‐contractors and suppliers

  • Dealing effectively with challenges with suppliers and the flow of materials

  • Ensuring compliance with the safety, health and environment requirements of materials and services

  • Providing advice to the project estimator on the predicted cost of individual items

  • Liaising closely with the estimator at the tendering stage to ensure that an accurate project cost is provided

  • Preparing and maintaining cost reports in order to maximise efficiency within the business

  • Negotiating and agreeing the most favourable terms possible with suppliers once a contract has been secured

Requirements:

  • Experience of sourcing and buying / purchasing goods and materials, experience of working in the construction / building industry or similar would be beneficial

  • Ability to develop, maintain and strengthen relationships, both with colleagues as well as external suppliers

  • Excellent attention to detail

  • Proficient IT skills including good knowledge of MS Word and MS Excel

  • Enjoy working in a multi-faceted role in a busy environment

  • First class organisation skills

  • Ability to communicate with people at all levels including clients and suppliers

  • Enjoy working as part of a team
