What was the situation?
The client set the assignment to look for an Operations Director as the company required an individual to support with all new business enquiries. The hiring team had offered the role to an individual which met the search criteria, however after this was rejected the team at James Andrew Residential chose to use a retained search in order to have more control over the process. James Andrew Residential is a medium sized company, and the new role was created to support the amount of new business and help steer the growth of business; they advised on what the right profile and salary would be for the role.
Were these any challenges?
The search profile provided an initial challenge as JAR needed an individual that had an existing and established network of developers and is dedicated to building new business. Less than 1% of professionals in the Leasehold world have experience in this role so the pool of talent drawn was limited.
What was the methodology?
With the assistance of deverellsmith’s data and research function, Will mapped all managing agents in the new build space that worked with developers. This allowed him to start identifying senior people within the business that might be doing this job, panning across the UK.
LinkedIn Recruiter (pro sales tool) also connected Will directly to candidates and adverts were placed across all relevant job platforms. He used his existing network which has been built over the years to ask for credible referrals. This methodology resulted in Will shortlisting 10 candidates, interviewing 5, 2 with second interviews and 1 offer was made. This project was complete within the agreed timeframe of 3 months.
What was the outcome?
Will was able to source a candidate who matched the ideal profile, had the right experience and who contributed to the company culture. 10 months on and the business has grown significantly and are now looking after Argent, a developer in charge of them as a client.
