Who is the company?
Realstar Group is a privately owned real-estate investment and management company with over $7 billion of assets focused on rental residential, hospitality and alternative asset classes. Realstar are recognised as one of the most enduring partnerships in the Canadian real estate sector.
What was the situation?
Hannah was assigned with the task of filling the newly created role, VP of Asset Management. As Realstar’s portfolio was on track for a positive trajectory combined with ambitious growth plans the company needed someone to come on board and own the asset management side of the business. There were 5 people in the team, and as they wanted an VP of asset management with more asset management experience rather than from the financial team, an external hire was imperative.
Were there any challenges?
Realstar were seeking someone detail oriented who had experience in financial modelling, however these individuals are usually attracted to investment roles. As Realstar weren’t looking for a ‘dealmaker’ finding the right personality type along with the right experience drew a smaller pool of talent, yet one that Hannah was connected to.
What was the methodology?
To fill the role successfully, Hannah was assisted by deverellsmith’s data and research function. Hannah also conducted an individual mapping project which consisted of researching experienced candidates with a the right background. Additionally, Hannah networked the market to maximise her reach and communication.
After interviewing 15 people herself, Hannah was able to shortlist 6 prospective candidates, 5 of which were requested for an interview. The hiring manager was delighted with the selection put forward and offered one interviewee the role.
What was the outcome?
Hannah was able to fill the role successfully within the agreed timeframe which left the client highly satisfied and able to kick-start new projects and drive further business growth.
