Design Manager - Student Accommodation Scheme

We are working with a leading construction contractor to recruit a Design Manager for a £45m student accommodation project in North London. This is an excellent opportunity to join a high-performing team delivering a major scheme, with further opportunities to progress within the business.
As Design Manager, you will be a key figure in the coordination and delivery of the design process from pre-construction through to completion, ensuring all information is produced to programme and to the required standards. This role is suited to a highly organised and proactive individual with a strong technical background and experience managing complex residential or accommodation-led projects.
Key Responsibilities:
- Coordinate all design disciplines in conjunction with the wider project team
- Produce, manage and maintain the design programme and information flow schedule
- Oversee the design approval process, including drawings, submittals, and samples
- Liaise with consultants, subcontractors, and internal teams to ensure timely and accurate delivery of design information
- Lead regular design and technical workshops, reviews and meetings
- Manage the production of Contractor Design Proposals and ensure compliance with ERs, specifications and cost plan
- Assist in consultant appointments and the development of design responsibility matrix
- Input into planning condition discharge and ensure compliance with Building Regulations
- Implement and coach QA and inspection processes in coordination with the site team
- Maintain professional documentation and clear communication with all project stakeholders
Requirements:
- Proven experience as a Design Manager on similar-scale residential, mixed-use or student accommodation projects
- Strong knowledge of UK Building Regulations and design standards
- Excellent communication and coordination skills
- Able to manage multiple stakeholders and drive the design process efficiently
- Experience working across all RIBA stages, ideally within a main contractor environment
- Proficiency with document control systems and project workflows
