Financial Controller
Property Business | Growth-Backed | High Autonomy
We're working with a growing, project-led property business that has recently secured multi-year funding runway and is now strengthening its senior finance capability.
This is a step-change hire for the business. Rather than replacing like-for-like, the role has been upgraded to Financial Controller to reflect the level of ownership, autonomy and commercial impact required.
The Opportunity
The Financial Controller will take full responsibility for the finance function, with the mandate to both run it day-to-day and improve how it operates longer term.
You will work closely with the CEO and senior leadership team, acting as a true commercial partner rather than a back-office function.
Key elements of the role include:
End-to-end ownership of the finance function
Oversight of transactional finance and outsourced bookkeeping
Project-based accounting, budgeting and profitability tracking
Cashflow forecasting and financial modelling
Board reporting and senior stakeholder reporting
FP&A, forecasting and commercial analysis
Leading a finance transformation - redesigning reporting, processes and models
Improving how finance supports and interacts with wider teams
There is a structured handover period with the current Finance Director, followed by genuine independence to take the function forward.
What They're Looking For
This role will suit someone who wants ownership and influence, not just a title.
You'll likely bring:
Broad, hands-on experience across accounting, reporting and FP&A
Experience in project-based or asset-led environments (property, construction, development, consultancy or similar)
The ability to own and explain numbers clearly to non-finance stakeholders
Confidence working directly with senior leaders and decision-makers
A proactive, improvement-led mindset - comfortable challenging how things are done
Strong communication skills and an approachable working style
Sector background is flexible - capability and mindset matter more than labels.
Working Pattern & Package
Hybrid working - typically 1-3 days in the office (more initially, flexible longer term)
Salary: £70,000-£80,000 + benefits
Equity participation after year one
Clear progression and visibility within a scaling business
This is a rare opportunity to step into a senior finance role with real autonomy, commercial exposure and the chance to shape how finance supports a growing property business.
