Senior Quantity Surveyor

Salary: £65,000 - £72,000
We're working with a large, well-established property and housing organisation to recruit an experienced Senior Quantity Surveyor to join their Commercial team. This is a fantastic opportunity for a commercially astute QS who enjoys owning their workstreams, influencing outcomes, and supporting operational teams in a fast-paced environment.
The role sits within a Reactive Repairs and Minor Works setting and offers genuine scope to lead, mentor, and make a measurable impact on cost control and value generation.
The Role
As Senior Quantity Surveyor, you'll take full ownership of assigned projects and workstreams, ensuring robust financial and contractual management throughout. You'll work closely with operational colleagues, subcontractors, and suppliers to deliver best value while protecting the organisation's commercial interests.
You'll also have line management responsibility for up to three Quantity Surveyors, with support from a Senior or Managing Quantity Surveyor.
Key Responsibilities
Full commercial and contractual management of projects and workstreams
Ensuring appropriate contracts are in place and costs are accurately forecast and controlled
Managing subcontractor and supplier relationships to achieve best value
Providing mitigation strategies for contractual and commercial risks
Supporting operational teams with commercial advice and challenge
Identifying, securing, and recording cost savings
Managing budgets using forensic cost control techniques
Handling cost reconciliation and reporting for allocated workstreams
Managing underperformance where necessary
What We're Looking For
Significant experience in a Quantity Surveying role, ideally within repairs, maintenance, or minor works
Strong commercial awareness with sound contractual and legal knowledge
Experience managing principal contractors and subcontractors
Confident dealing with performance issues and commercial challenges
Highly numerate with strong analytical and data interrogation skills
Competent in standard methods of measurement and use of Schedules of Rates
Degree or HNC (or equivalent experience) in a relevant discipline
Professional membership (RICS / CIOB) is desirable but not essential
