Role Overview
The Quantity Surveyor is responsible for providing accurate cost advice and robust commercial management across construction projects from feasibility through to final account. The role includes involvement in major, complex developments, including a £400m mixed-use scheme comprising over 460 units and a 30-storey building delivered using steel and concrete frame construction.
The position requires close collaboration with clients, consultants, contractors, and internal teams to ensure projects are delivered efficiently, compliantly, and with maximum value.
Key Responsibilities
Work closely with clients to understand project requirements and commercial objectives
Undertake feasibility studies and cost planning for proposed developments
Measure, calculate, and analyse quantities, costs, labour, and programme requirements
Prepare tender documentation, contracts, and bills of quantities
Manage cost control, risk management, and value engineering processes
Analyse repair and maintenance costs where required
Negotiate contracts, variations, and commercial agreements
Assess, value, and certify subcontractor works and payments
Ensure compliance with relevant legislation, regulations, and quality standards
Monitor project performance and continually assess value for money
Produce regular cost, progress, and financial reports
Provide advice on claims, disputes, and contractual matters
Support funding applications and financial approvals where required
Assist in the initiation and setup of new construction projects
Contribute to business development activities and client relationships

Proficient in the use of technology and quantity surveying software

Strong understanding of construction methods, steel and concrete frame structures, and engineering principles
Team-oriented with leadership and motivational qualities
Qualifications & Experience
Degree qualified in Quantity Surveying or a related discipline
Membership of the Royal Institution of Chartered Surveyors (RICS)
Minimum of 5 years' relevant experience preferred
Strong IT skills, including Microsoft Office and industry-standard measurement software
