Estimating Manager- Logistics
Construction Sector | Full-Time, Exempt | Office-Based with Occasional Travel
We are working exclusively with a leading construction business to find an experienced and driven Estimating Manager to lead their estimating function. This is a senior, high-impact role for someone who combines sharp technical acumen with genuine leadership ability - someone who can win work, grow a team, and shape the future of a thriving department.
Our client is a well-established, forward-thinking contractor with a strong pipeline and a clear commitment to excellence. They are looking for a leader, not just a number-cruncher.
About the Role
As Estimating Manager, you will oversee and direct the full estimating function - from producing winning bids to managing and mentoring a team of Cost Engineers, Estimators, and Estimating Coordinators. You will report directly to the Director of Estimating, Division Vice President, or President, and will play a central role in the company's growth strategy.
What You'll Be Doing
Estimating & Bid Management
- Lead the preparation of well-organised, accurate, and compelling bid packages across lump sum, conceptual, schematic, and design-development project types.
- Present estimates confidently to clients and address technical questions with authority.
- Leverage historical data to ensure precision and competitiveness in all estimates.
- Review subcontractor proposals for accuracy and manage open issues well in advance of bid day.
- Maintain concise bid scope sheets and quantity surveys, ensuring full readiness for scope meetings.
Leadership, Training & Management
- Provide structured, ongoing training and development for your estimating team.
- Manage department budgets, targets, and timelines - adjusting priorities as needed to meet deadlines.
- Delegate effectively, follow up on task completion, and foster a high-performance team culture.
- Mentor junior staff and support their long-term career development in estimating and the wider industry.
Collaboration & Business Development
- Build and maintain strong relationships with clients, subcontractors, and internal stakeholders.
- Collaborate across marketing, business development, and operations to support company strategy.
- Attend project milestone meetings including Owner Risk Meetings (ORMs) and Financial Reviews.
- Cultivate owner relationships to generate repeat business, and network actively within the industry.
- Work closely with subcontractors to stay ahead of potential project opportunities.
What Our Client Is Looking For
- A degree in a relevant architectural or engineering discipline.
- 7-10 years of construction and/or construction estimating experience.
- Demonstrated ability to lead, coach, and develop an estimating team.
- Proficiency with online estimating and construction management software.
- A data-driven mindset - you make decisions based on evidence, not assumptions.
- Strong interpersonal skills and the ability to manage relationships at all levels.
- Comfortable presenting to senior stakeholders and clients.
Why This Opportunity?
- A genuinely senior role with real influence over department strategy and team culture.
- A company that invests in people - with a clear focus on retention, development, and performance.
- Strong project pipeline and a leadership team that values estimating as a business-critical function.
- Competitive compensation package commensurate with experience.
