What was the situation?

Joseph’s client previously had a CFO in situ who had more experience with larger more corporate structures, rather than working in smaller sized companies. They were looking for a candidate to come into the business and provide a more hands on approach and support the CEO in achieving their ambitious growth plans.

Were there any challenges?

The client required a candidate that was able to deal with the most senior duties expected of a CFO. This meant Joseph needed to find a candidate who was also able to provide a hands-on approach and be a business partner with the sales, construction, and operations divisions.

Another challenge was the location meant candidates would likely have to commute via car, which limited the pool of candidates to people who can drive and people that live within a specific radius of the office.

What was the methodology?

Joseph met with the client and relevant stakeholders to access each of their expectations for the potential candidates, this enabled him to build a bespoke job description that encapsulated all the business leaders’ requirements.

Following this, Joseph mapped candidates with a particular focus on SME and family office and finance leaders. He then met with 12 relevant candidates from Finance Director and CFO backgrounds, then met with the client again to present the short list.

Based on the conversation they selected 4 candidates for 1stinterviews, 3 invited for 2ndinterviews, before bringing back a preferred candidate to meet with 2 members of the board.

What were the results?

The interviews were followed by an offer which has been accepted and candidate has handed in notice and starts shortly.
