Interim Sales Manager - Southeast

Interim Sales Manager - Southeast
Consultant: Tess Amigoni, New Homes Principal Consultant
Role: Interim Sales Manager
Location: Multiple sites in Southeast England

Who is the company?

The company is an expert property developer with a rich history for decades. The company operates across three dedicated business units, all of which are active across England and South Wales and aligned to structural growth trends.

What was the situation?

Tess Amigoni, New Homes Principal Consultant for the Regions, was instructed to source an Interim Sales Manager by a housebuilder that she had established a strong relationship with over the last 3 years.

The hiring manager had newly created a ‘Sales Manager’ role and successfully found the right candidate to fill the placement, however this candidate had to honour a 3-month notice period. To ensure sales enquiries were responded to effectively, completions continued efficiently, and the team was managed throughout those 3 months, it was Tess’s responsibility to find the right candidate to temporarily support market demands.

Were there any challenges?

The search drew multiple challenges: firstly, due to the role being an interim role it meant that it was more appealing to contractors rather than individuals seeking permanent opportunities, which accumulated a smaller pool of candidates.

Secondly, the successful candidate would be responsible for managing sales and completions across a large geographical patch as the developments were located across multiple sites. The role included travel to all the sites, so finding someone who was willing to travel was crucial.

Following the pandemic, candidates are seeking stability and security. Sourcing candidates who are immediately available, who are willing to commit to a short period of time and still do an excellent job was much more challenging compared to pre-pandemic.

What was the methodology?

Tess was able to use the long-standing connections within her network and harness a 2-year relationship she had with the successful candidate.

This is Tess’s key to filling placements successfully, maintaining relationships with high calibre candidates and sustaining consistent communication. This means that Tess knows which candidates are readily available, experienced, and can add value to a business.

Due to Tess’s previous due diligence, the hiring manager trusted Tess’s judgement and was able to save time and resources by going straight to offer and removing the need for an interview.

What was the outcome?

The successful candidate thoroughly understood the business’ needs and added value where was needed. The candidate and hiring manager were both highly satisfied with the placement and expectations were exceeded for both parties.
