What was the situation?
A New Homes housebuilder had launched a new development in London and was actively seeking an experienced salesperson to support the sales team.
Were there any challenges?
Like many other industries at the beginning of 2022, the New Homes sector was experiencing a shortage of active candidates who were driven to find a new opportunity. Additionally, candidates of the highest calibre were being offered multiple positions by multiple organisations and then being hit with extremely generous counteroffers to stay put.
This resulted in wage inflation across the industry to retain and attract talent, which meant salaries were going above market rate.
Ellie King advised the client how it’s really important to find someone who is passionate about the project and selling homes within development, and who isn’t just moving for money.
What was the methodology?
Ellie used her extensive network to create a shortlist of prospective candidates who were then screened and questioned to understand their motives, skillsets that could compliment the business and reasons for wanting to leave their current employment.
In addition and to maximise market exposure, Ellie utilised deverellsmith’s data and research function to produce a fully mapped project and connect with potential candidates outside of her network and deverellsmith’s database.
As a result, Ellie produced a shortlist of 4 candidates of which all were taken to interview, 2 were taken to second stage and 1 candidate was successfully offered the role. The entire project took 3 weeks.
What was the result?
The candidate has successfully hit targets and been a great addition to the team.
