Role Overview
A leading UK construction and property consultancy is looking for a Senior Project Manager to join its Birmingham team. It is a complex, visible scheme with several stakeholders, and it will shape how the local community moves around and experiences its town centre.
You will be the client's trusted adviser from inception to handover. You will manage contracts, programme, cost and risk, and work closely with local authority clients, design teams and contractors. Alongside this flagship project, you will support a wider portfolio across infrastructure and the built environment and help to grow the Birmingham office.
Key Responsibilities
- Lead end-to-end project management of infrastructure and regeneration schemes, from feasibility and design through procurement, construction and completion
- Administer NEC contracts, acting as Project Manager under NEC3/NEC4 ECC: issuing instructions, assessing compensation events, managing early warnings and accepting programmes
- Manage JCT contracts on building-led packages and advise clients on procurement routes and contract strategy
- Build and maintain strong relationships with public-sector clients, funders, local authorities, design consultants and contractors
- Monitor programme, budget, quality and risk, and give clear reports to clients and project boards
- Run client meetings, progress reviews and stakeholder workshops
- Coordinate with cost consultants, quantity surveyors and other specialists to keep projects commercially sound
- Mentor and support junior project managers and graduates
- Help to win new work through bid writing, framework submissions and client relationship building
Requirements
- Proven project management experience in the built environment, ideally on infrastructure, transport or regeneration schemes
- Working knowledge of NEC contracts (NEC3/NEC4), ideally as the named Project Manager
- Experience of JCT contracts and traditional and design-and-build procurement
- Experience delivering public-sector or grant-funded projects is highly desirable
- Degree in Project Management, Construction Management, Building Surveying, Civil Engineering or a related discipline
- Chartered membership of APM, RICS, CIOB or ICE, or working towards it
- Confident stakeholder manager who communicates clearly with technical and non-technical audiences
- Organised, commercially aware and comfortable managing several priorities at once
- Full UK driving licence, with the ability to travel to sites across the region
