Architect (Part 3 Qualified), Interiors-Led Multidisciplinary Practice, Central London
| Hybrid: Office-based with flexibility
My client is a well-regarded, independent consultancy that blends interior design, project management and cost consultancy under one roof. They're a close-knit team of around 25 who pride themselves on straightforward, dependable advice and on seeing projects through, from first concept to completion or in a supporting role where clients need it.
They're now looking for a Part 3 qualified Architect to bring technical rigour and an architectural eye to their interiors-led projects. You'll help the design team turn creative ideas into spaces that are compliant, buildable and well considered. The initial focus will be a growing portfolio of education and SEND projects, many of them refurbishments and adaptations of existing buildings.
The role
- Work alongside interior designers to take concepts through to coordinated, technically resolved designs ready to build
- Provide architectural input at every stage, reviewing and developing drawings and technical information
- Apply a sound working knowledge of Building Regulations, statutory requirements and relevant standards so schemes are safe, compliant and fit for purpose
- Assess existing buildings and advise on the opportunities and constraints of refurbishment, adaptation and change of use
- Support education and SEND projects, with an understanding of the technical, accessibility, safety and operational needs of these environments
- Factor fire and life safety into the design and technical process
- Spot technical risks early and help resolve them before they affect programme, cost or delivery
- Coordinate information with clients, consultants, contractors and the wider project team
- Protect design intent, balancing creativity with compliance, practicality and commercial reality
- Share knowledge across the interior design, project management and cost teams, and mentor junior colleagues where appropriate
About you
- At least 3 years' post-qualification experience
- Experience in the education sector, ideally including SEND settings
- A track record on refurbishment and existing-building projects
- Genuine enthusiasm for interior design and for working closely with an interiors-led team
- Strong practical grasp of Building Regulations and compliance, and a good understanding of fire and life safety
- Confident producing, reviewing and coordinating technical information, and spotting problems on drawings
- Good knowledge of listed building consent and full planning applications
- Proficient in AutoCAD and SketchUp
- A good eye for materials and detailing, and for how architecture and interiors relate
- Clear, confident communication, written, verbal and visual, with clients, consultants, contractors and colleagues
- A collaborative, pragmatic approach and the ability to juggle priorities with close attention to detail
- Comfortable working across different sectors and project types as the business grows
