Client Overview

A residential rental operator with a growing portfolio faced a distinctly modern recruitment challenge: sourcing talent for a role that, until recently, barely existed in the market.

The Challenge

With the Renters' Rights Act having come into force only two months prior, demand had emerged for a Rent Review and Tribunal Analyst, a highly niche position created to manage rent disputes and represent the business at tribunal. As one of the first operators to recruit into this space, there was no established talent pool or precedent to draw on, and candidates themselves were often unfamiliar with what the role entailed.

Our Approach

Leadership

The search was led by Louise Galvin, who has deep sector expertise in build-to-rent and residential operations recruitment, and so was well placed to translate an entirely new role into a compelling, credible opportunity for the market.

Overview of Methodology

  • Comprehensive market mapping to identify individuals with transferable skillsets, given the absence of direct precedents for the role

  • Proactive, direct outreach to source candidates rather than relying on inbound applications, due to the specialist nature of the position

  • Weekly client check-ins to maintain alignment on evolving requirements and candidate feedback

  • Continuous candidate engagement and education, clearly articulating the scope and value of a brand-new role type

  • Careful assessment of how candidates' previous experience translated to the demands of rent review and tribunal work

Results

  • Role filled in under 30 days from instruction

  • Shortlist of 5 high-calibre candidates presented

  • Final shortlist narrowed to 2

  • One candidate successfully placed into the role

  • A standout "wildcard" candidate identified during the process, with a new position now being created for them within the business

Key Success Factors

Rapid, targeted market mapping and sustained candidate engagement enabled a fast, high-quality outcome for a role with no established benchmark, while also uncovering additional talent value beyond the original brief.
